Islington involved a full basement and structural package for a Victorian terrace townhouse, working across lower ground, ground and first floors. London Basement formed the basement under the existing property, installed structural steel and structural joinery, and delivered below-slab drainage with structural waterproofing. External reinforced concrete works were carried out to form rear masonry steps. The primary challenges were complex ground conditions and maintaining safe, uninterrupted access for multiple residents during construction. Careful planning, phasing and protection measures allowed residents to continue using the property while structural works progressed. The project was completed in line with design specifications, demonstrating London Basement’s capability in working within occupied, structurally sensitive Victorian housing stock.
