This was a technically complex scheme combining a single-level basement with full three-storey steel superstructure and façade retention. London Basement constructed the basement beneath the existing building, achieving a 3.5 metre floor-to-ceiling height, and erected a three-storey steel frame to support the development above. The existing front façade was retained, supported by extensive temporary works while deep excavation and steel erection took place behind. The 42-week project demanded careful sequencing to maintain façade stability, coordinate steelwork installation and manage a busy urban environment. All works were completed on time and on budget, providing the developer with a fully supported, structurally robust shell that integrates new basement and superstructure with retained heritage elements.
